On 14 July 2023, an Al Shabaab suicide bomber detonated his explosives, targeting the deputy commissioner for Marka district and senior government soldier (SNA) (off duty) at the government residential building in Shiirkole neighborhood in Mogadishu - Hodan (Banadir). At least 12 people were killed, including the deputy commissioner and suicide bomber. Al Shabaab claimed responsibility.
