On 8 July 2023, suspected Kuki militants fired a mortar shell towards Kwakta Ward No. 8 in Kwakta village under Phougakchao Ikhai police station limits (Bishnupur, Manipur) which hit a house and injured a civilian, amidst ongoing violence between Meitei and Tribal communities in the state. Kuki militants had warned the locals to vacate the area earlier in the morning.
