On 21 June 2023, two suicide bombers from Al Shabaab detonated, targeting ATMIS ENDF and government security forces (SNA) defensive bases in Bardera town (Baardheere, Gedo). Seven were killed and 15 others were injured, fatalities coded as 9. Al Shabaab claimed responsibility.
