Lieutenant Fabrice Mboutou, a dedicated officer of the Cameroonian army’s Rapid Intervention Battalion, died as a result of fatal injuries sustained in the detonation of a homemade bomb. This incident adds to the horrific death toll of military troops in the current conflict. The deadly event unfolded in the locality of Mbengwi on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, as Lieutenant Mboutou and his squad were on routine patrol duty. The lethal explosive device, evidently planted by adversaries and overlooked due to its crude design, detonated unexpectedly and wreaked havoc on the team.
