Civil Police officer killed by a blast of a landmine of unknown origin in Aleppo suburbs on Aug 8 Yasin al Refa’i, a lieutenant with the Civil Police who was displaced from Jobar neighborhood in Damascus city, was killed when a landmine of unknown origin exploded in the area nearby the car he was in near al Basouta village, which is administratively a part of Afrin city in the northern suburbs of Aleppo governorate, on August 8, 2020. SNHR is still trying to contact witnesses to obtain more details of the incident. SNHR calls on the governing forces in each area to bear responsibility for protecting civilians in the areas under their control, to reveal the sites of planted landmines and to remove them. We have documented hundreds of deaths and injuries resulting from landmine explosions, which will continue to constitute a real threat to people, particularly children, for several years to come.
