On 12 April 2023, in Taung Sun village (Kyainseikgyi township, Kawkareik district, Kayin state), a 24-year-old monk stepped on a mine planted by military forces (according to locals) while checking on the stairs under construction in a pagoda compound together with another two men and was injured from the explosion at around 9 am.
