UAV event in Kunyo Barrow area, Somalia on Sat 29th February 2020
29th February 2020
US AFRICOM which oversees US military operations on the continent of Africa has claimed responsibility for yet another drone strike in Somalia. In a statement published online, US AFRICOM reveals a series of strikes from a US predator drone hit the village of Kunyo Barrow in the Shabellaha Hoose province. The US claimed two separate precision strikes hit militants in the Al Shabaab controlled town of Kunyo Barrow, leaving two Al Shabaab fighters dead. These claims could not be independently confirmed. In Somalia, Al Shabaab controlled territory remains closed off from local journalists and aid agencies to access making it impossible to access the aftermath of US drone strikes. Henceforth, its hard to conform weather the victims of the drone strikes are civilians or combatants. The latest drone strike in Somalia marks the 16th US drone strike in Somalia since the start of the year.
