Grenade event in Sagaing, Yinmarbin area, Myanmar on Wed 5th April 2023

On 5 April 2023, between Pan and Ta Nei villages (coded as Pan) (Pale township, Yinmarbin district, Sagaing region), the Myanmar military launched airstrikes against a camp of the M7 People's Defense Army with a Mi-35 helicopter gunship at around 9:30 am. The airstrikes lasted for around 45 minutes, and around 100 soldiers were airlifted by two Mi-17 helicopters. The soldiers set fire to five buildings in the camp and seized one M4 carbine, one AK, homemade 60mm, 80mm and 120mm grenade launchers and rations. Around 5,000 villagers from Pan, Ta Nei and Nwar Ku villagers were forced to flee. Initially, Myanmar Now, Myanmar Pressphoto Agency, Mizzima and Khit Thit Media reported that four members of the group were injured and they went missing with another two members. According to Khit Thit Media, the group confirmed that its seven members were killed. Fatalities coded as 7 using the latest reports.
