On 20 March 2023, near Nyaung Kone village of Kyaukkyi township (Taungoo district, Bago-East region), a landmine explosion hit a vehicle carrying civilians and killed three people and injured some on Kyaukkyi-Taungoo Road. The Myanmar military troops and the Karen National Liberation Army (KNU/KNLA) often clashed around that incident area. VOA reported that two others were also injured by the explosion.
