On 18 March 2023, in Nyein Chan Thar Yar village (Hpakant township, Mohnyin district, Kachin state), the Myanmar military fired artillery rounds into the village at around 6 pm, following a clash with a combined force of the KIA and the PDF (under the NUG) near Long Hkin village. Six villagers including four men, a woman and a seven-year-old child were killed and two others including a child were injured by artillery shells. The injured victims were sent to the Hpakant general hospital.
