An object similar to an explosive device was found on the morning of Thursday, February 23, 2023, in the Bakongolo neighborhood, on Avenue Cocacer, in the educational complex of the Anglican University of Congo (UAC), in the city of Bunia, capital of the province of Ituri. Alerted, the security services descended on the site for inspection, before calling on agents of MONUSCO (United Nations Organization Mission for Stabilization in Congo) section UNMAS, for its destruction. "It was around 11 a.m. that this object suspected of being an improvised explosive device was destroyed by UNMAS experts, where two loud bangs were heard," said Colonel GŽrard Abeli Mwangu, urban commander of the Congolese National Police (PNC) in Bunia. The same source adds that this situation caused a momentary panic among the population of this part of the city, before calm returned. The head of the PNC in Bunia called on the inhabitants to be vigilant and to always alert the security services in the event of the discovery of such objects.
