Undefined Explosive Device (UED) event in Mechelen, Mechelen area, Belgium on Sun 5th March 2023
5th March 2023
A house and three vehicles were damaged by an explosive device in Mechelen, during the night of Sunday to Monday, said the local police. A kind of firework was used. The events took place around 03:20. "Local residents called us because they heard the sound of explosions," said the police. "At the scene, we found that a window and the front door of a house, as well as three vehicles, were damaged." The Defense Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service (DEDDS) and the forensic laboratory descended on the scene. An investigating judge has been assigned to the case. The investigation will most likely be entrusted to the Federal Judicial Police. The investigations will have to determine if this attack - whose modus operandi links it to many similar facts committed, in particular in Antwerp - is related to the drug scene. This is the third case of this kind in Mechelen in a few weeks.
