Grenade event in Michoac‡n, Pe–a la Colorada, Aguililla area, Mexico on Sun 22nd January 2023

In compliance with the National Public Security Strategy and the federal government's Zero Impunity policy, in Michoac‡n, members of the National Guard (GN), in coordination with elements of the Mexican Army, detained a person and seized firearms, magazines, rounds of ammunition, as well as explosive devices, tactical equipment and motorbikes. As a result of intelligence work and to detect criminal organisations with a presence in this state, personnel from both institutions, supported by state police, carried out preventive patrols in the town of Pe–a la Colorada in the municipality of Aguililla, where they came into contact with two individuals on board a motorbike wearing tactical waistcoats. Upon noticing the presence of the authorities, the individuals fell off the motorbike, and the driver managed to flee; however, the National Guardsmen caught up with the passenger, who was carrying a firearm and six magazines, for which he was detained, along with the motorbike. When they proceeded to read the detainee their rights, and carried out the protocols of action, the representatives of the Armed Forces were attacked with firearms, from an abandoned building site. After attempting to capture the assailants, whose arrest was unsuccessful, the following was found in the building: 2 hand grenades, 12 homemade explosive devices, 5 firearms, 23 magazines, 636 rounds of ammunition, 4 tactical waistcoats, 8 ballistic plates, 5 cartridge belts and 2 motorbikes. The detainee, along with the military equipment and the motorbikes, was taken to the Apatzing‡n office of the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR), in order to carry out expert actions to confirm the characteristics of the weaponry and to continue the respective investigations. With these actions, the National Guard and the Mexican Army reaffirm their commitment to ensure and safeguard the well-being of citizens, contributing to the Government of Mexico to guarantee peace and security in the country.
