On 6 March 2023, IS militants conducted a complex attack targeting civilians in Haziniya village in the Shakhna area 40 KM northeast of Baquba city within Al-Muqdadiya district, Diyala. The militants blocked a main road in the orchards of the Shakhna area, detonated an explosive device targeting a lawyer's car, opened fire at first responders who arrived at the scene, and opened fire at the home of a sheikh from an unspecified tribe. The militants killed 8 and injured 3.
