On 8 March 2023, in Kyon Hmein village (coded as Kawt Hlaing (Kyon Hmein)) (Thaton township, Thaton district, Mon state), the Thaton-based Myanmar military LIB-24 fired at least four artillery rounds into the village at around 7:30 am without an armed clash occurring. A 7-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy were killed by artillery shells. Another 9-year-old boy sustained injuries in his forearm and a 50-year-old woman sustained critical injuries in her head. The injured victims were transferred to a hospital in the KNU territory.
