Mine event in Kayin, Hpa-An area, Myanmar on Thu 9th March 2023

On 9 March 2023, between Ka So and Ya Thayt Kone villages (coded as Ka So) (Hlaingbwe township, Hpa-An district, Kayin state), an unidentified armed group carried out a mine attack against a convoy carrying the Chair and members of the KNU, who were traveling from the KNU's Headquarters to villages in Hlaingbwe township to conduct public consultations, in the afternoon. An escort vehicle was hit by mines, injuring a person. According to the DVB, the KNU's convoy was attacked although the Karen Information Center News and Khit Thit Media reported that the news reports regarding the mine attack against the KNU's convoy was false. Instead, they reported that a car carrying members of the Border Guard Force (BGF) including the son of the BGF's leader was attacked.
