Unexploded bomb found in canal by Offerton Lane in Hindlip POLICE cordoned off a towpath and road after an unexploded bomb was pulled from the canal. West Mercia Police were called to Offerton Lane, in Hindlip, and set up a 200m cordon. The discovery was made shortly after 10.30am on Sunday (March 5). Specialists made the unexploded ordinance safe before the road was reopened at 1pm. A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "A 200m cordon was put in place as a precaution, which included a road closure. "Explosive Ordnance Disposal specialists attended, and the device was made safe. "The road re-opened at around 1pm." In December, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team safely carried out a controlled explosion of a 15lb first world war artillery shell that was found by magnet fishermen in the River Severn. South Quay by the River Severn in Worcester was cordoned off and emergency services were called to the scene. The explosion was conducted on farmland in Worcestershire.
