Mine
Mine event in Syrian Arab Republic on Wed 15th March 2023
15th March 2023
On March 15, 2023, the Syria Monitoring Network for Human Rights documented the killing of the young man, Jassem Al-Alawi Al-Abdullah Al-Razj, from the village of Saalo in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor Governorate, as a result of a landmine explosion, the source of which has not yet been known. The Syria Monitoring Network for Human Rights confirms that mines pose a threat that targets individuals, killing and maiming them for many years, and the international community adopted the Mine Ban Treaty (Ottowa) in 1997 to ban the use of these weapons. The Syria Monitoring Network for Human Rights holds the party in control of the land fully responsible, and urges it to work seriously to remove mines and secure the areas it controls from the danger of this type of weapon.
