Russia is using a JDAM analogue The Russian Air Force has begun using bombs equipped with a flight correction mechanism in its war against Ukraine. Recently, a Russian FAB-500 bomb fell on Donetsk, near which a local resident discovered the remains of this mechanism. The unexploded bomb was found on a street in the Kuibyshev district. Presumably, it fell from a Russian bomber as a result of a technical malfunction. A few hundred metres away from the bomb, they found a control and correction unit, which is supposed to turn an ordinary unguided bomb into a precision-guided munition. The Russian defence industry has been developing a new type of guided aerial weapon for a long time. The Tactical Rocketry Corporation has been implementing a project for the so-called guided missile and bomb system codenamed Grom for several years. The project proposed the creation of a set of tools that could be used to convert aircraft bombs or missiles with different technical characteristics and combat capabilities into precision weapons. One of the project's variants proposed a cylindrical compartment containing navigation, control and guidance devices. A long gargoyle is attached to the top of this compartment, connecting it to other devices. The narrow longitudinal gargroth has dowels for suspending the missile/bomb on the carrier. It was proposed to suspend a flat hood with mounts for a folding wing under the warhead module. The planning and control module is equipped with a satellite navigation system. In flight, the module determines its location and, making the necessary calculations, adjusts the flight path. As a reminder, the US will provide Ukraine with JDAM (Joint Direct Attack Munition) kits, which transform conventional bombs into all-weather, adjustable smart munitions.  See also: https://twitter.com/bayraktar_1love/status/1634905459839864837 and https://twitter.com/Ukraine_AF/status/1635028161032515584
