Surrey train lines blocked while police dealt with 'wartime bomb' near railway Police and disposal experts were called to a residential area in Feltham A train line in Surrey was blocked on Friday (February 24) after police and disposal experts were called to reports of an unexploded Òwartime bombÓ close to the railway. Officers responded to a residential area in Feltham where a device was deemed safe and removed. Passengers faced delays after South Western Railway (SWR) services between Ashford and Staines were suspended for a period of time from around 9am while a cordon was set up nearby. This included part of the rail line. SWR announced at 9.13am: ÒDue to a wartime bomb near the railway between Ashford Middlesex and Staines all lines are blocked. Trains may be cancelled, delayed, or revised because of this problem.Ó A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: ÒOn Friday, February 24 at approximately 8.27am police were called to Redford Close, Feltham to reports of an unexploded device. Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) attended the scene and the device was deemed safe a short time later and removed. No further action was required.Ó A spokesperson for South Western Railway added: ÒAt around 9.05am this morning an unexploded device was found on residential land near the railway between Ashford and Staines. The discovery meant that the authorities needed to establish a cordon around the area - which included the railway line. ÒServices were suspended for around 25 minutes, but the device has now been removed by specialist teams and weÕre working to get services back to normal by early this afternoon.Ó It was expected disruption would last until around 1pm, however all lines were re-opened before 11am when 30-minute delays were then reported.
