On 25 February 2023, in Thin Paung Kyin village (Kanbalu township, Kanbalu district, Sagaing region), three students (two eighth-graders and a fourth-grader) hit landmines while going to herd cows at around 4 pm. One of the eighth-grade students was killed from the explosion and another two were injured.
