On 28 January 2023, in Thandaung town (Thandaunggyi township, Hpa-An district, Kayin state), the military fired three rounds of heavy artillery indiscriminately without an armed clash occurring at around 11 am and the shells hit and destroyed a house in ward (3). The St. Marcus Church in ward (2) was also slightly damaged by two shells. Casualties unknown.
