Damascus, Jan 30 (Prensa Latina) A minor lost his life due to the explosion of a mine planted by terrorist groups in southern Syria, medical sources quoted by Syrian television reported on Monday. The incident occurred in the town of Zamrin, in the northwest of Deraa province, some 120 kilometers south of this capital. The doctors at the Sanameen military hospital where the boy was taken assured that the victim was severely injured. The Syrian delegate at the United Nations agencies in Geneva, Husam al-Din Alaa, recently revealed that the Army managed to defuse more than 180,000 mines and other explosive devices left behind by terrorists. The diplomat denounced that foreign occupation and the presence of such groups in some regions block access and demining work. However, despite all obstacles, the Syrian Army deactivated more than 50,000 explosive devices, 84,000 unexploded shells and 45,000 mines of various types, and cleared more than 55,000 hectares, Alaa revealed.
