UEMS / Ammunition Depot event in West Coast region, Kampanti Village, Foni Kansala District area, Gambia on Sun 8th January 2023

The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) has said that it has taken away, to safety, the "unexploded" ammunition found in a village not very far from the home of former President Yahya Jammeh. "ةthe Explosive Ordnance Device (EOD) Team of 4 Infantry Battalion in Kanilai responded to an incident of an Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) device around Kampanti Village, Foni Kansala District, West Coast regionة The UXO was rendered safe by the EOD team, before it was collected for further examination and possible disposal by the GAF," The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) said in a statement. The army advised the public, especially residents in the border villages in the area to be vigilant, and report to the nearest Police Post or Military Camp, any suspected unexploded ammunition they might find in their area. The development came recently, following a report of the unexploded ammunition in the village. However, no information was given on how the unexploded ammunition got to the village.
