On 21 January 2023, the Malian air force conducted airstrikes against presumed JNIM militant positions in the area between Farabougou and Goma-Coura (Niono, Segou). There were no casualties. Ground forces recovered a herd of cattle previously extorted as 'zakat' from the population by JNIM militants. The cattle was subsequently handed over to local authorities.
