On 16 January 2023, two Al Shabaab suicide vehicle-borne IEDs (SVBIED) detonated, targeting the government officials in Halgan town (Bulo Burto, Hiraan). At least five people including two suicide bombers were killed. Al Shabaab claimed responsibility.
