On 17 January 2023, in the west of Nyaung Zin Lay village (Kanbalu township, Kanbalu district, Sagaing region), a combined force of the Kanbalu Underground Warriors, MPF U-18, Kanbalu PDF (PaKaPha), local PDFs and local ground forces attacked the military and the Pyu Saw Htee stationed in the village with eight 60 mm artillery rounds, forcing the military and the Pyu Saw Htee to retreat to Yaw village. A total of at least 8 fatalities on the military side split across three locations (Nyaung Zin Lay villages, between Bo Te Kone and Su Poke Kone villages, and Yaw village), coded as 3 in this event.
