On 4 January 2023, an IED planted by Al Shabaab detonated, targeting a vehicle driven by the Deputy District Commissioner of Heliwa District at the Ex-Control Balcad in Mogadishu - Heliwa (Banadir). Two Security guards (police) were killed and two others were injured in the blast. Al Shabaab claimed responsibility.
