On 1 January 2023, unidentified gunmen threw a hand grenade targeting the security guards (military) at the residence of a Southwest State Presidential candidate and opposition member in Hawlwadag neighborhood in Baidoa town (Baydhaba, Bay). There were no fatalities. Two civilian bystanders were injured in the blast.
