On 21 December 2022, an IED planted by Al Shabaab militants detonated, targeting government security forces (SNA) convoy travelling in between Burane and Mahadaay village (Jowhar, Middle Shabelle). The forces were escorting humanitarian trucks carrying food for new liberated areas in Middle Shabelle region. Five soldiers were killed and five others were injured. Al Shabaab claimed responsibility.
