On 3 January 2023, in Loikaw town (Loikaw township, Loikaw district, Kayah state), an unidentified armed group attacked the police guarding at the Loikaw airport with an improvised rocket launcher at around 10 am. A military building within the compound of the airport was damaged, and an airport police was injured. Khit Thit Media reported that an improvised rocket launcher was used while the DVB reported that bombs attached to drones were used. Other source, Ministry of Defense - NUG, reported the event occurred at around 8 am.
