WWII-era bomb disposal operation prompting disruptions in central Heidelberg, Germany, Dec. 15. Likely evacuations, travel disruptions Authorities are responding to the discovery of an unexploded World War II-era bomb in central Heidelberg, Dec. 15. The device was uncovered in the Bahnstadt District of the city, on the Europaplatz building site between Max-Jarecki-Strasse and Grune Meile roads. A security zone is being established, and residents in the area will likely be evacuated. Road closures are in place, and traffic is being diverted. Authorities have yet to decide when the disposal operation will take place: disruptions may continue into Dec. 16. It is not known how long the disposal operations will last. Tram lines L22 and L26 are likely to be temporarily disrupted. Lingering disruptions are likely as traffic returns to normal after the operation concludes. Avoid the area. Plan alternative routes if necessary and allow extra time to reach destinations in the affected area.
