Total Metal Recovery in Stoke Prior, Bromsgrove, was evacuated until bomb squad could check over discovery A Bromsgrove bomb scare that evacuated a business park and led to cancelled trains and traffic disruption was due to an "empty box", it has emerged. Total Metal Recovery(TMR) scrapyard alerted police over a suspicious item at around 11am yesterday(November 29). West Midlands Railway had initially reported it as a "wartime bomb" that had been discovered, in a tweet about the alert cancelling trains yesterday. But a source close to the police investigation said what was believed to have potentially been a 'an unexploded ordnance' was actually "a box with an explosive warning on the outside". They added that bomb disposal experts went in to investigate but the box "turned out to be empty". Around 50 workers were evacuated from scrap metal company TMR and neighbouring businesses, off Hanbury Road, in Stoke Prior, opposite the Navigation pub. West Mercia Police put up a 50m cordon around the premises for the safety of the public from 11am until shortly after 1pm. Motorists were urged to stay away from the area and West Midlands Railway also notified passengers that trains between Bromsgrove and Stoke Work Junction route towards Worcester were cancelled as the track was within the evacuation zone. A West Mercia Police spokesperson said today: "The item was found not to pose a threat in the end." At the time of the incident, the force said: "We're in attendance at scrap yard on Hanbury Road in Stoke Prior, Worcestershire, following the discovery of an unexploded ordnance."
