An aircraft bomb from the Second World War was found during exploratory work in Hamburg's Wilhelmsburg district on Tuesday. The explosive ordnance clearance service defused the dud in the evening. Around 4,500 residents had to temporarily leave their homes 300 meters around the site of the discovery on Thielenstrasse. There was emergency accommodation for those affected in the district school on Stübenhofer Weg. Residents within a radius of 1,000 meters should keep windows and doors closed. The defusing of the dud was delayed because the evacuation took longer than planned and the Wilhelmsburg train station had to be evacuated. Traffic restrictions during the mitigation The bomb disposal resulted in restrictions on road traffic and on trains and buses: the B75 was blocked in both directions. In the meantime, all regional, long-distance and S-Bahn trains that run across the Elbe between Harburg and Hamburg have also been stopped. The elevated railway routed the buses in the affected area. Harlem Globetrotters basketball show canceled The bomb disposal also had an impact on a performance by the basketball show group "Harlem Globetrotters" . Since the edel-optics.de arena was within the warning radius, the show had to be cancelled. Bomb was nine meters down A specialist company had examined the ground on the construction site in Thielenstrasse and discovered the 450-kilogram American World War II bomb with a rear-impact fuse. It lay in the ground water nine meters deep in the earth.
