A bomb has been successfully defused in Bochum-Hofstede. A dud from World War II lay on Insterburger Strasse. During the course of Monday afternoon (November 21), the affected area had to be evacuated and the bomb defused. 1,600 residents were affected. All residents are allowed to return to their homes. 8:50 p.m.: The evacuations are complete. The decontamination can begin. However, the detonator of the bomb is positioned at an angle and after defusing the so-called "detonator" still has to be blown up in a controlled manner. Therefore, the defusing may be delayed a little. 7.45 p.m .: The evacuation is still going on, some residents had and still have to be taken out of their apartments with the help of the police and fire brigade. When exactly the defusing can start - is still not foreseeable, says Mario Reuther, head of municipal crisis management. 6.45 p.m .: The next briefing is at 7 p.m. 6.30 p.m .: A few more people have now left their homes in the evacuation area. Whether all residents are out. but is not guaranteed. 6.10 p.m .: There are probably still people in the evacuation radius who partially refuse to be evacuated. But before it's ensured that they're out, it doesn't go any further. Reuther appeals again to leave the apartments now so that the bomb can be defused. At the moment, however, they are also used a lot elsewhere. 4:48 p.m .: Today, the explosive ordnance clearance service uses a drone to support the evacuation for the second time. This flies low over the evacuation area and helps to see whether there are still people in the restricted area. 4 p.m.: The following streets have now been closed in the evacuation area: Alone Steiner Str., Braunsberger Str., Dorstener Str. Hordeler Str. Insterburger Str., Kleine Hordeler Str., Klostermannstr., Ortelsburger Str. and Rastenburger Str. 3.30 p.m .: The evacuation is underway – around 1600 Bochum residents now have to leave their homes. A briefing on the current situation is scheduled for 4 p.m. 2:05 p.m .: The city of Bochum confirms that there is a bomb from the Second World War on Insterburger Straße in Hofstede. Evacuation and defusing still take place today. The English aircraft bomb with an impact fuse was found after a suspicious spot was checked on Insterburger Strasse in Hofstede this morning. The evacuation radius is about 250 meters. Around 1,600 residents have to leave their homes for the evacuation. According to the current plan, the evacuation should begin between 3:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. The city is setting up a collection point at the Bochum Mitte comprehensive school.
