On 29 March 2020, a suicide bomber detonated an explosive device (PBIED) in the Barxada area in Garowe (Garoowe, Nugaal), targeting the Nugal Governor. The governor succumbed to his injuries, whilst a former police commander and two other civilians were injured. Al Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack.
