IED event in Esmeraldas, Esmeraldas area, Ecuador on Tue 11th January 2022

The four car bomb attacks occurred three in Guayaquil and one in Esmeraldas. The vehicles with explosives were in the sector of La Alborada, in Guayaquil, in the local Community Police Unit. The next one was reported at one of the gas stations in Pascuales, 8 kilometers from the first car bomb and another of the cars with explosives exploded at the Pascuales land terminal. The station is closed for investigations and no injuries were reported, according to the Municipality. In addition to these attacks, explosive devices were found near three police units in Guayaquil and in two neighborhoods of the city, according to the Cupsfire account that reports information on emergencies. There were also attacks on police officers in two sectors of the city and the distribution of pamphlets attributed to criminal gangs outside a media outlet. All the attacks occurred within a perimeter of approximately 28 kilometers and within a radius of 3.5 kilometers in Guayaquil. On the other hand, in Esmeraldas, the car bomb was registered outside a gas station.
