On 2 December 2022, AQAP militants targeted with an IED an STC Security Belt forces vehicle as it was passing through a main road in Al Mahfad district (coded to Al Mahfid) (Abyan) killing 2 (an officer and his escort) and injuring 3. AQAP claimed that there were 5 'UAE mercenaries' in the vehicle.
