At least three members of the Malian Armed Forces (FAMA) died in this attack. This Friday, shortly after 5 a.m. GMT, heavy gunfire and explosions were heard in the garrison town of Kati, near Bamako. At least two planes were seen in the sky over the locality. It all started with at least two explosions this Friday morning, July 22, shortly after 5:00 am GMT. It was part of the camp in Kati, a stronghold of the military junta located 15 km from Bamako, that was first targeted. According to two witnesses interviewed by RFI, a second explosion was quickly heard. And very quickly, heavy gunfire followed. "The objective is clear, it is directed against the junta's leaders," a resident of Kati told RFI.
