The drought continues to bring back traces of the past in the Alps. On the Italian side of the Matterhorn, the melting of the Ventina glacier has brought back an explosive device, probably an artillery projectile from the Second World War. The object, partly oxidised, is 30 centimetres long and five centimetres in diameter, the Italian agency Ansa said on Wednesday. It was found in recent days above Cervinia, at an altitude of 3090 metres. No homes or sports facilities are in the area, which has been sealed off.
