What a surprise for this group of young people who came to carry out a metal detection operation in Damblainville, near Falaise (Calvados).Tuesday, July 22, 2022, around 5 pm, they spotted an object. The group thinks at first to a helmet. The discovery turns out to be an American aerial bomb dating from the Second World War. "A bomb disposal team was contacted and dispatched to remove the 250 kg device and transport it to the Caen bomb disposal center. "We have already come across bombs in the commune. But we have never seen one like this. It is 1.40 meters long. It took a tractor to get it out," explains the mayor. No danger for the inhabitants of Damblainville, "the first houses were located 1.5 km from the place of discovery," says the elected official. But it was a good scare for these metal detecting enthusiasts.
