Mortar Bomb event in Grand Est, Sarre-Union area, France on Fri 24th June 2022
24th June 2022
American munitions dating from the Second World War were discovered a few days apart in Sarre-Union, triggering the intervention of deminers on Friday. The explosives experts first went to the banks of the Saar, where an American mortar shell with a diameter of 81 mm was pulled out by magnet fishermen. This discovery was quickly reported. A good thing, since the explosive device was still potentially operational. "In these cases, it is important to report this type of discovery quickly and not to move the object," explained one of the two deminers present this Friday in Saarbrcken. In conjunction with the municipality, the two professionals took charge of the device and destroyed it in a secure location.
