The mortar shell was discovered this Wednesday morning as part of the archaeological surveys underway at the Lamarque barracks. The demining team intervened in the early afternoon and quickly ruled out any danger. Launched on Monday, the archaeological surveys carried out on the Place d'Armes of the Lamarque barracks had to be interrupted on Wednesday morning after the discovery of a mortar shell. It was around 10am when two members of the National Institute for Preventive Archaeological Research (Inrap) and an excavator driver dug up the explosive device in a trench. "We were digging at a depth of about 1.80 metres when we discovered it," said the excavator driver on Wednesday afternoon while waiting for a bomb disposal team to arrive.
