25th October 2022
Two explosive devices were discovered on Tuesday 25 October in the market of the town of Oicha (Beni territory), in North Kivu. According to the army, these are improvised explosive devices that were booby-trapped by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels, before being evacuated to safety by experts. "UNMAS experts have just cleared these bombs. But it is a warning to the population, we must be very vigilant and not trust everyone who arrives as a customer at the market," said Nicolas Kikuku, the governor's delegate in Oicha. This is the umpteenth time an explosive device has been found at the Oicha market. On Wednesday 5 January, an improvised explosive device rigged by suspected ADF fighters exploded at the market in front of a second-hand shop in the Mbimbi district without causing any damage.
