Police officers responding to an assault case in Edmonton, Alberta, found an improvised explosive device in a car on Sunday. Police went to a west-end home around 12:30 p.m. Sunday in connection with an assault case, Global News reported. According to authorities, Brian Webster threatened two people, "demanding that they drive him to buy drugs. In a statement released Tuesday morning, the Edmonton Police Service said the 32-year-old suspect allegedly assaulted a woman before leaving with her. Police were reportedly able to locate the car and arrest the man. "During the arrest, an improvised explosive device was found inside the car," the force said, adding that the explosives unit was able to disarm the device. On Sunday, the Edmonton Fire Department said it was called to a suspicious package incident. A scene was set up in the parking lot of a gas station where a black vehicle was located. Investigators also attended the scene. No other explosive devices were found when police searched the suspect's home. Brian Webster now faces charges of possession of a device, uttering threats, kidnapping, assault with a weapon, breach of conditions and breach of a firearms prohibition.
