On 2 March 2020, Islamic State militants detonated an IED targeting Egyptian soldiers on foot patrol west of the Abu Fareeh checkpoint, south of Rafah (Rafah, North Sinai), killing and injuring an unknown number of soldiers. Unknown number of fatalities coded as 3.
