On 7 March 2020, approximately 25 families were displaced from their homes due to a recent an escalation of attacks by Islamic State militants in the village of Qasrawit, southwest of Bir Al-Abd (Bir Al-Abd, North Sinai). The Islamic State launched artillery in the direction of the village, while Egyptian Military Forces carried out a campaign of arrests nearby, leaving families to flee the area.
