On 30 March 2020, Egyptian military forces conducted airstrikes in Bir Al-Abd (Bir Al-Abd, North Sinai) following an Islamic State attack on a military checkpoint that left at least to 5 soldiers dead. Sources allege that the purpose of the airstrikes was to provide cover for ground forces that were recovering the dead and injured soldiers.
