On August 14 2019, an officer of the Scientific and Criminal Investigations Body (CICPC) and an individual died when a grenade exploded during a pursuit in Maracaibo, Zulia state. Police officers were patrolling when an individual threw a grenade at the officers. Six police officers were injured.
