On August 29th, five Kenyan soldiers were killed and ten wounded when their vehicle hit a landmine on the road between Kiunga and Sankuri (Lamu, coordinates for Kiunga used). It was not clear who had planted the device, though a pro-Al Shabaab radio station in Somalia subsequently claimed that Al Shabaab had killed at least 20 Kenyan soldiers in an (unverified) attack in the area of Lamu, which was reported to be an ambush. Until further information comes to light, this has been coded as a single event of remote violence by an unknown group, killing five.
